Top Psychology Training Programs

Here's a link to the U.S. News & World Report Rankings of Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology. Rankings aren't everything, but people who graduated from highly ranked programs are generally much more adept at understaning the latest research and integrating it into their clinical practice.

In recent years, research has led to many new and effective treatments. Nevertheless, far too many Ph.D. programs continue to train their students in decades-old treatment methods while failing to teach new, proven treatments. As a result, leading academic clinical scientists (i.e., clinical psychologists who conduct research on treatment effectiveness) from approximately 50 university psychology departments that value research are in the process of developing a new accreditation system for Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology. The training programs involved in this effort are members of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. Click the link below to see a list of these programs as well as a number of internships that are also participating in the effort. Psychologists who graduated from these programs are more likely to be familiar with research findings concerning which treatments are most effective for various psychological problems.
